To properly understand what niche marketing is about, you first need to understand what a Niche Market is.
What Is A Niche Market?
Simply put, a Niche Market is a group of people that are interested in something specific. A Niche Market may be defined as a small section of a large market, small fish in a big pond, so to speak. People get a bit confused about what a Niche Market is but it is really quite simple – anything with an audience can be a Niche Market.
Anything that people type into the search engines can potentially become a Niche Market. There are literally thousands of people searching for specific things on the internet every day, looking to solve certain problems. You just need to identify what people are looking for and then try to help them solve these problems.
What’s Niche Marketing About?
Niche Marketing is for helping people solve specific problems. You, as a Niche Marketer simply supply timely, engaging information and solutions to your audience and in doing so, you are helping them solve their problems. You need to develop a deep understanding of your Niche Market and what they are looking for, and also develop the ability to stay engaged with your audience on a personal level.
At this point you need to remember that you are not there to get people to buy your products or services, you are there to help people within your chosen Niche Market to solve their problems. By trying to market your products or services too early, you will only push people away. The trick here is to build relationships, offer solutions and therefore build trust. Once people trust you, they will be happy to buy your products or use your services.
The better you understand your Niche Market, the better equipped you will be to understand what it is they need and therefore, the better equipped you will be to fulfil these needs. The main thing to remember when trying to set up a successful Niche Marketing campaign is, get to know your target audience and what they are looking for.
But How Do You Get To Know Your Target Audience?
I have found that by joining, forums, social media groups etc, and entering into discussions about your Niche, you will get a feel for what people are after. There are plenty of places on the internet where you can connect with like minded people. You then need to identify the problems people are having within your Niche Market and offer solutions to these problems. If you continually offer solutions, helpful tips and advice to your Niche Market, they will begin to see you as an expert and they will begin to trust you.
Of course it is always best to target a Niche that interests you. You will find it far easier to communicate with your Niche Market about something you have a passion for and it will be a lot more enjoyable for you too. There would be no point in trying to break into the gardening niche, if you have no interest in gardening. You would quickly become bored and therefore, fail in the venture. So, remember to choose something you are interested in and then start to develop your Niche Marketing Strategy.
What Is A Niche Marketing Strategy?
When choosing your Niche Marketing strategy, you don’t want your Niche Market group to be too broad. The worst thing you can do is try to compete with a huge Niche Market like, say weight loss. As you can imagine it would be very hard to compete in the weight loss niche as it is already very saturated.
It would be far better to dig down deep into that niche and find something more targeted, more specific. You might like to look at Weight Loss after 50 or Weight Loss after Pregnancy. These are only examples, but you see what I am getting at. There are literally thousands of sectors of the weight loss industry that you could target.
Let’s take a look at the Gardening Niche – again a very broad (and very saturated) Niche, but what if we break it down into small bite sized chunks? Instead of targeting gardeners in general we could look at certain aspects of gardening to find our Niche Market, such as: – Growing Vegetables, Hydroponics, Growing Roses etc.
Now let’s look at how we can break these Niches down even further. Instead of trying to target Growing Vegetables, we could try targeting How to Grow Perfect Tomatoes. Instead of Hydroponics, we could target Hydroponic Lighting Systems and instead of Growing Roses, we could target Growing Black Roses. Again, these are only examples, but I’m sure you are starting to see the bigger picture..
Should you be afraid of competition? As long as your Niche is fairly targeted, the answer is no, not really. In most cases competition is healthy and means there is a market for your product or service. You can actually learn a lot from your competition by seeing what it is they are offering, but more importantly, what it is that they are not offering.
You are trying to fill a void within your chosen Niche by offering unique, timely advice and information. By consistently doing this, you will gain your own following and your competition will start to see you as their competition.
Another way of attracting people to your Niche Marketing offer is by the use of keywords. Within any Niche Market there are thousands of very low competition keywords you can use to target any group. Finding these Niche Keywords will ultimately be the key to your success – Excuse the pun.
What Are Niche Keywords?
Niche Keywords are words or phrases that people type into their search engine when they are looking for specific information or to solve a problem. You will want to find relevant keywords that target your Niche Market audience and then write content around those keywords. This is how you will get ranked with the search engines and allow people to find you.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here as this is a very important step in your Niche Marketing Strategy. It is very important to do your research here and you will be aiming to find keywords that have a high number of searches and not a lot of competition.
